The Danish Girl is not just another movie to enjoy Eddie Redmayne’s remarkable performance. To tell the truth, I fell in love with this actor after The Theory of Everything, and his transformation in The Danish Girl is no less extraordinary (I am looking forward to his next movies!) Still, the supporting role performed by Alicia Vikander is just as good. While Redmayne’s part is what grabs your attention in the first place, that is Vikander’s touching performance that makes you keep watching. Both actors have been nominated for Oscar awards and even though they have strong competitors like Leonardo DiCaprio from The Revenant and Jennifer Jason Leigh from The Hateful Eight (my humble opinion :) I hope at least one of them will get it!
The Danish Girl tells an important story, and just like any of them, this one is not an easy to watch. Einar Wegener (Eddie Redmayne) was a popular Danish painter married to Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander), who was a painter as well. After 22 years of marriage (only 6, according to the movie), Eddie began to realize that he was a woman inside. When a model for one of Gerda’s painting did not show up, Gerda asked her husband to pose for a portrait in women's clothes, which arose deep-hidden feelings in Einar. What started as a joke soon turned into real suffering for Einar since he felt he was two different people at the same time, and there was more and more of a woman with each passing day. Finally, he became so uncomfortable in his own body that he decided to undergo a sex reassignment surgery and became one of the first people who found the courage to do that.
I would recommend watching The Danish Girl for at least three reasons. Firstly, that is Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander’s acting. They did a really good job together! Secondly, director's work is praiseworthy. It is a great pleasure to watch. Finally, the story itself is worthy of attention. It raises awareness of issues that are needed to be heard. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who searched the info about Einar Wegener and his wife due to The Danish Girl. As usual, I do not recommend you to watch the trailer before the movie since it tells everything.

После просмотра Теории всего я была в полнейшем восторге от игры Эдди Редмэйна. И именно очередной его необыкновенный образ в Девушке из Дании заставил меня посмотреть этот фильм. Несмотря на то, что Редмэйн не разочаровывает зрителя, представляя еще одно невероятное перевоплощение, фильм понравился бы мне в разы меньше, если бы актрисой второго плана не выбрали Алисию Викандер. В прошлом году Алисия появилась во многих фильмах, включая нашумевший Ex Machina, однако именно в Девушке из Дании она поражает больше всего. И Редмэйн, и Викандер были номинированы на Оскар за свою игру в Девушке из Дании, и несмотря на то, что среди их конкурентов есть ДиКаприо из Выжившего и Дженнифер Джейсон Ли из Омерзительной восьмерки, я надеюсь, хотя бы один из них свой Оскар получит.
Девушка из Дании основана на реальной истории Лили Элбе (Эдди Редмэйн), одной из первых известных истории пациенток, решившихся на хирургическую коррекцию пола. От рождения Лили была мужчиной, успешным датским художником по имени Эйнар Вегенер (Эдди Редмэйн). Эйнар был женат на Герде Вегенер (Алисия Викандер), которая также была художницей. Однажды девушка, позирующая Герде для портрета балерины, не пришла, и Герда попросила своего мужа заменить ее, надев женские одежды. Именно тогда Эйнар впервые ощутил желание быть женщиной. Со временем желание крепло и Эйнар больше не мог находиться в теле мужчины, называя его чужим.
Девушка из Дании достойна внимания как минимум по трем причинам. Прежде всего, это игра Эдди Редмэйна и Алисии Викандер. В то время как каждый из них талантлив по отдельности, они замечательно сработались, дополняя друг друга. Режиссерская работа также заслуживает похвалы – фильм более чем приятно смотреть. Наконец, сама история достойна того, чтобы проникнуться ею. Думаю, не я одна, посмотрев Девушку из Дании, навела справки о Лили Элбе и Герде Вегенер. Как обычно, не советую смотреть трейлер если собираетесь смотреть фильм.
